OLGA HANS

Olga Hans studied music theory and composition at the Academy of Music in Lodz, Poland, receiving diplomas with distinction in 1995 and 1997, and she is currently on the faculty there. Her work has been performed at numerous festivals in Poland, Holland, Spain, and Great Britain. A member of the Polish Composers' Union, Hans was nominated for the prestigious OPUS Award in 2008, and is the recipient of many other prizes.


Hans's principal works include five string quartets, the Fantazja for solo guitar, Close to the Scent of Jazz for brass, Cantus for orchestra, Violin Concerto, Sun Songs for 7 cellos, Elegia for violin and orchestra, Da suonare a tre for piano trio, Litany for mixed choir, Sonata for solo cello, Locus Solus for cello octet, Thyrsos for brass and percussion, Three Old Polish Psalms for mixed choir, the Miniature for cello and piano, Nocturnes for piano trio, Elegiac Preludes for flute and string quartet, the Cello Concerto for the Right Hand, and Recitativo e arioso for viola or cello solo.
