Washington Square Outdoor Art Exhibit is of the oldest juried shows in New York City. The exhibit started in depression-era 1931 and many of the struggling young artists who participated in the early years went on to become household names. It includes a full range of artistic styles, many manners of expression and many flavors of artist. The exhibit is not limited to the usual artistic media; it also includes artists who work in craft-like materials such as leather, jewelry and fabrics.
