In my understanding, the medium should not be an obstacle to a successful accomplishment of an idea of work. In my artistic practice I am especially interested in the juxtaposition of an autonomous work of art with a place rather than the gallery itself. I am going to cross over the boundaries of the exhibition space and get non-artists involved in my work. - Hubert Czerepok

HUBERT CZEREPOK (b. 1973, Slubice, Poland), explores the connections between fiction and truth in historical accounts through the media of drawing, painting, photography, installation, and video. It is not the facts themselves that interest the artist, but rather the ways in which they mutate and undergo formal and semantic transformations. His works consider themes of war, imprisonment, peculiar events like UFO sightings, the institution of the museum, and the state of the art world in Poland and the idea that history can only be represented through distortion. He currently lives and works in Warsaw.

OMI INTERNATIONAL ARTISTS RESIDENCY invites visual artists from every continent, representing a wide diversity of artistic styles, to gather in rural New York State to experiment, collaborate and share ideas. During three weeks each July, concentrated time for creative work is balanced with the stimulation of cultural exchange and critical appraisal. Each session, a distinguished critic/curator is invited to participate as Critic-in-Residence, currently Director of New York City Department of Cultural Affairs' Percent for Art Program, Sara Reisman, who leads discussions and makes individual studio visits. Omi's Visitors Program enables residents to have conversations with many visiting art critics, gallery owners and prominent artists. Direct engagement with the New York City art world is unmatched by similar residency programs.

Hubert Czerepok residency is supported by Adam Mickiewicz Institute.
