WantedDesign Manhattan, in the Terminal Stores building at 269 11th Avenue, New York, NY
Join us for the announcement of the winner of the Design School Workshop juried competition on May 22nd, part of WantedDesign Manhattan, a creative destination for the international design community. It takes place in May of each year, during NYCxDESIGN in the landmark Terminal Stores building on 11th Avenue in the West Chelsea Historic District.
The 7th annual of the Design School Workshop is led by the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. It will be held May 17-21 at Industry City studios in Brooklyn, and close with a celebration on May 22 in the Terminal Stores building in Chelsea. Students from seven design schools in five countries, including Finland, Mexico, France, and the USA will participate in the Workshop, as well as The Strzeminski Academy of Art Lódz, from Poland.
Students will team up to complete a project on the theme of a Future Heirloom. The students will have only five days to brainstorm, conceptualize, design and produce objects exploring the meaningful and tactile ways an heirloom can be passed onto future generations. Selected materials, craft methods, and digital tools will be explored such as: wood, textile, and AR+VR tools, as well as 3D printed plastics.
The Jury Committee will include Tomek Rygalik, internationally acclaimed icon of Polish design and founder of TRE Product, a leading Polish design brand based in Warsaw. Their work will be showcased in the main exhibit hall at WantedDesign Manhattan.
