"Beta Nassau," Piotr Wyrzykowski. 1993. Color. Running time: 9 minutes.

Piotr Wyrzykowski was born in 1968 in Danzig, Poland, where he studied at the Arts Academy. His work crosses over into the areas of music, video, computer, Internet and performance. His work often has a 'hands on' or low tech approach even when he investigates new media. Preferring to explore the way things function in the real world, Wyrzykowski is known for his adventurous spirit and idiosyncratic performances. His work has been included in important festivals within Poland and abroad.

"Beta Nassau" is a painterly videotape. Using a stationary camera, the artist recorded a slowly moving object. He captures the magnitude, breadth, and beauty of everyday dockyard occurrences. This work sustains the elements of suspense and drama through the qualities of movement, surface texture, and color of a gigantic ship.
