CHRISTIAN TOMASZEWSKI
Christian Tomaszewski was born in 1971 in Gdansk and currently lives and works in New York. He received his MFA degree from the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznan, Poland in 1995. His multimedia installations explore aspects of cinema, architecture, and the reconstruction or deconstruction of narrative. His work has been exhibited widely in the United States and Europe in such venues as SculptureCenter and The Bronx Museum, New York; the Centre for Contemporary Art Zamek Ujazdowski, Warsaw; Atlas Sztuki, Lodz; Fondazione Querini Stampalia, Venice; the National Gallery, Prague, Skulpturenmuseum Glaskasten, Marl (a joint project with Ilya Kabakov); Kunstmuseum Chemnitz, Chemnitz; and Kunstforum Ostdeutsche Galerie, Regensburg, among others. In his most recent solo exhibition, at New York's SculptureCenter, Tomaszewski presented an installation exploring and intersecting two iconic masterpieces - David Lynch's Blue Velvet and Kurt Schwitters's Merzbau.
