Joanna Malinowska, In Practice, 2003, video installation

Joanna Malinowska is a Polish-born artist working in video, sculpture, sound and performance, based in New York since 1992. Malinowska is a graduate of the sculpture departments of Rutgers University (BFA) and Yale University (MFA). In her work, Malinowska fluctuates between different mediasculpture, video and performanceexploring her interests in anthropology, clashes of culture, and music. Since 2001, she has been represented by the Canada gallery in New York. Malinowska's works have been shown in such venues as the Sculpture Center, Art in General, and Postmasters in New York; the Saatchi Gallery and Nottingham Contemporary in the United Kingdom; the Espace Culturel Louis Vuitton in Paris; Kunstmuseum Bern in Switzerland; the Center for Contemporary Art Zamek Ujazdowski and Zachta  National Gallery of Art in Warsaw. She has participated in the First Moscow Art Biennial, the Performa 09 Biennial and the Whitney Biennial 2012 in New York. She has received grants from the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation, the Pollock-Krasner Foundation, the New York Foundation for the Arts, the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and Smack Mellon.
