International Artist Residency 2012 Season II / April 20, 2012
NARS International Artist Residency Program provides national and international artists with the opportunity to produce new work while engaging with the vibrant arts community in New York City. Artists-in-residence have access to an individual studio space and various professional development programs. Residents have an opportunity to share and present their work through artist talks, workshops, and lectures and receive studio visits by prominent New York City curators, critics and gallerists. The NARS Foundation seeks applications on two levels. The first level includes emerging and mid-career artists for whom appointments as residents may make a significant impact on their careers. The second level consists of artists with established national and/or international reputations for whom a change of environment may offer refreshment and inspiration.

Artist Talk with Tori Purcell:

New York Art Residency and Studios (NARS) Foundation is pleased to invite you to join our 2011 Juried Solo winner Tori Purcell for an Artist Talk on April 14 at 4 PM. In conjunction with her exhibition, (Ex)change, currently on view at the NARS Foundation Gallery through April 28, Purcell will share the stories and personal recollections which fostered the creation of her photographic series Neither Here and the sculptural installation Dialectic, which acts as an anchor for the exhibition. She will also have the opportunity to offer her insights and perspectives as she introduces us to her previous works and upcoming projects. Please join us for a reception to follow.
(Ex)change examines the globalized economy and its socio-political impact on issues of migration and cultural displacement. Tori Purcell was selected from our 2011 Juried Solo Exhibition Open Call by Juror Nat Trotman, associate curator at the Solomon R. Guggenheim, New York. Tori Purcell is a Brooklyn based conceptual artist and photographer. Originally from Virginia, she received her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Vanderbilt University and a Masters of Fine Arts from the Savannah College of Art and Design. She is currently Acting Assistant Chair in the Photography Dept. at Pratt Institute and Adjunct Professor of Photography at Queensborough Community College.
